Outdoor 2-Season Houses
2-Seasons Houses are designed to house tortoises from mid-Spring through to mid-Autumn outside making them ideal for hibernating tortoises such as Mediterranean tortoises. You could place a 2-Season House inside a greenhouse or use an indoor set-up during the cooler parts of the year. The main difference to the All-Season Houses is that 2-Season Houses they have no internal floor and no internal layer of plywood on the walls. The insulation is secured on the inside of the Tongue and Groove walls and therefore there is no air cavity for extra insulation either. 2-Season House walls should be placed on a solid wall (breeze blocks or brick would be ideal) that is sunk into the ground and stands proud of the soil surface by at least 5 cm. They are insulated to protect against cold, wind, water and over-heating in the sun. Colour may be different than the shade shown in the photo.
- Half-Height option is more economical but requires a wall at least 30 cm high to place the walls onto to allow enough head height for the heatlamp.
- Medium and Large sizes are 1 m deep and therefore are ideal for housing multiple tortoises.
- Provides essential heating facilities for keeping your tortoises outdoors from mid-spring to mid-Autumn and particularly when the UK has temperatures down to 15 degrees C. This accounts for 5-7 months of the year.
- Large enough space to provide a good temperature gradient. Permanent access to outside space.
- Walls, floors and roof have a single layer of bubble-foil loft insulation.
- Doors can be locked and the tortoise door can be secured from the inside.
- Recommend Outdoor UV lighting unit in one half to provide UVB throughout the year. UVB is essential for tortoises.
- Energy efficient housing due to insulation. Must be careful of ground frosts in cooler months but heatlamp should prevent problems. Tortoises should be hibernating somewhere else during winter.

They are constructed in a similar way to the Outdoor All-Season Houses apart from the sunrooms and extra insulation provide by lack of double-skinned walls. They have the same front access doors with fixed rooves and tortoise door. They have enough space to house a heatlamp, UV lighting, and the one metre deep ones (Medium and Large sizes) are ideal for housing multiple tortoises. The roof is fitted with high quality felt and the outside is painted with high quality weather-proof stain. The 2-Season Houses are flat-packed and need minimal assemblage on delivery. The roof slots inside the wall frame and can remain removable or be fixed if you prefer. Full access to the house is achieved via the front doors. Measurements are Length x Depth x Height. Note the UV unit comes with a wire and plug not fitted. It is recommended that you seek a qualified electrician to fit the wire and plug to the UV unit.
